Where We Left Off With The Insult Machines Of Veep

As the anxious and grim Homeland season 6 door closes, the silly, expletive-filled window of Veep season 6 opens. The HBO White House comedy returns on Sunday, April 15, and we couldn’t need need it any more. While it’s possible to watch the scariest parts of our political landscape play out on TV, Veep reminds us our leaders may be far more bumbling than shows like Quantico lead us to believe. I mean, try to tell me Sean Spicer isn’t a conservative Mike McLintock made flesh.

Veep season 5 ended with our heroine Selina Meyer ousted from power after she and her political opponent Senator Bill O’Brien both failed to get 270 electoral votes during the election. Then, the House failed to pull have a majority vote. Then, when the Senate is set to vote on which vice presidential nominee will become president because Constitutional law is strange, they still split the vote in season-ender “Inauguration.” Vengeful current vice president Andre Doyle finally settles the debate. Somehow, opposing veep candidate Laura Montez will become president.

This is where the major beats of the finale come in. If you’ve forgotten what happens to Selina and her team after this twisty shocker, check out the gallery now.

Dan Egan (Reid Scott)

Dan heads into TV news after Selina’s group of cursing misfits disbands at the end of her administration. CBS News offers the White House advisor a job, although, considering his social climber ways, Dan may be onto his third TV gig by the time Veep season 6 premieres.

Mike McLintock (Matt Walsh)

Mike should now be a father of three, since he and wife Wendy (Kathy Najimi) had twins on the way via surrogate in season 5’s finale and they adopted a "3-year-old." So-called "baby" Ellen eventually outs herself as a 6-year-old, after everyone questions why she’s so big.

In a preview for Veep season 6, it's confirmed Mike is still traveling with a post-presidential Selina, despite his gigantic family.

Amy Brookheimer (Anna Chlumsky)

Amy began dating Nevada Secretary of State Buddy Calhoun (Matt Oberg) at the end of season 5. He’s so forgettable, Selina thinks Amy adopted a new dog when the presidential advisor brings her new guy up.

Still, Amy is leading Buddy’s gubernatorial campaign in the season 6 sneak peek. In classic Amy fashion she insults a bunch of volunteers, telling them to “saddle up those emphysema tanks, you inbred cousin fuckers.”

While we can all see Amy's commitment to Buddy’s governor’s mansion dreams, she is still traveling the world with Selina too. These two can’t stay apart for long.

Gary Walsh (Tony Hale)

Speaking of people who can’t quit Selina, Gary will never leave the 44th president of the Veep United States. The body man gave us one of the finale’s most memorable moments when he finally had a meltdown over how poorly everyone treats Selina. Gary followed that up by joining the politician on her post-Montez Inauguration jet, no questions asked.

Except to see Gary continue to stand directly next to Selina at all times in season 6.

Sue Wilson (Sufe Bradshaw)

It's mentioned in "Inauguration" that one White House staffer will be kept on in the new administration. Of course, that person is the hyper-competent personal secretary Sue.

She looks just as happy handing President Montez a stack of folders as she has at any other point in the series.

Jonah Ryan

The Pointless Giant, as he was called in "Testimony," wraps season 5 as the newest congressman from New Hampshire. After a perfect miscommunication, he ends up with a staff stacked with "hotties," as he asked for, except they’re good look young men, instead of women.

In fact, his interns are so handsome they’re played by literal models, like "Black Space" music video bad boyfriend Sean O’Pry.

Since nothing goes well for Jonah, a doctor finds a lump on one of the politician’s testicles after he advocated for male health.

Ben Cafferty (Kevin Dunn) and Kent Davison (Gary Cole)

Both of these guys are just trying to shop their memoirs.

Charlie Baird (John Slattery)

President Montez taps Selina's ex-boyfriend to be the next Secretary of Treasury in "Inauguration." This happens after Selina and Charlie broke up because the veep-turned-president wouldn’t bail out her wealthy boyfriend.

Selina has absolutely no luck in life.

Selina Meyer

Selina ends the season sitting on a set of bleachers, not far from where she took off after the Inauguration. That perfect analogy for the "43rd most effective president" comes after her helicopter suffers engine failure and is immediately taken back down.

The former veep can still hear the music and celebrations of newly-minted President Montez’s celebratory parade. At least Selina’s still got Amy, Gary, and a post-makeover Katherine in her very bleak corner.

When we pick back up with Selina in season 6, she'll be traveling the world, pretending to be happy about her presidential loss, and, as usual, threatening Congressman Jonah Ryan.
